Development of Kraft Lignin Chemically Modified as a Novel Crosslinking Agent for the Synthesis of Active Hydrogels

In this research a chemical modification of kraft lignin was carried out using basic nucleophilic substitution reaction (NSA) in order to functionalize it as novel crosslinking agent for the synthesis active hydrogels. The success synthesized crosslinker demonstrated by several techniques such volumetry probes, FTIR, 1H-NMR and DSC. Thus, obtained materials were employed during acrylic acid-based hydrogels, due its high-water absorption capacity evaluate their retention potential heavy metal ions. Characterization hydrogels performed FTIR SEM, showing specific signals corresponding base monomers into polymer skeleton efficiency modified agent. Additionally, demonstrate use these wastewater treatment, ions adsorption experiments conducted, percentages higher than 90% 80% Pb2+ Cu2+, respectively.
